Abstract
Este breve texto quiere iniciar un análisis interdisciplinario de la situación del medio ambiente y su imbricación con las metas normativas de desarrollo en los países de América Latina. La modernización acelerada (con sus componentes: urbanización, industrialización, alto nivel de vida y consumismo masivo) constituye la meta normativa que aún hoy moldea la mentalidad predominante. Esta meta normativa es una imitación de lo alcanzado por la civilización occidental. La falta de una visión crítica acerca de la situación ecológica y de los fenómenos demográficos impide una efectiva protección de los ecosistemas amenazados.
This short text attempts to begin a multidisciplinary analysis of the actual environmental situation in Latin American countries and its close relationship with the normative goals of development in that area. The accelerated modernization (with its components: urbanization, industrialization, high living level, massive consumption) builds the normative goal, which till today shapes the prevailing Latin American mentality. This normative goal is an imitation of that which Western civilization has achieved. The lack of a critical vision concerning the environmental situation and demographic phenomena avoids an effective protection of the endangered environmental systems.
