Description
Abstract
The preliminary results of the survey carried out in the territory of Bailo / La Silla del Papa and Baelo Claudia are presented in this paper. The spatial analysis and intensive survey conducted in 2015 and 2016 allowed the identification of a complex territorial system led by Bailo / La Silla del Papa throughout the 1st millennium BC. The transfer of the city to the coast and the rise of a maritime town from the first century onwards, far from breaking with the settlement pattern and the agriculturebased economy of the previous phase, made its consolidation possible by adopting new Roman forms.
