Abstract

The city of Toledo is the result of a long historical process, deeply infl uenced by civic beliefs, which permitted its differentiation amongst othe rs cities and the defence of the preeminence which the city enjoyed during modern times. These p rivileges were reaffi rmed using historical arguments, when they existed, and inventing th em when they weren’t. This is the case of some inscriptions and coins used to validate old titles supposedly given to the city during old times, as well as the invention of saints or the attributio n of Toledo as the hometown for other saints; these normally ended with plots as the one about San Ti rso, in which our study is focused
