Description
Abstract
This article tries to light up some aspects related with the development of the informal credit systems, that turned in the main way to finance the agricultural activities in Murcia from the second half of XIX century to the beginning of XX century. In this context we analyse the mechanism and strategies of lenders that operated in this system, based in usurious loans and forced commercialisation of mortgages and woods. We also study the different kinds of clientelar borrowers that recurred to this way to finance their farms. Finally, we analyse the development of credit on landed property, that constituted the essential way to channel the supply and demand of capital in the regional agriculture.
