dc.description.abstractThe work of Professor George Ritzer had an early impact on Spanish academia. In this article we analyse Ritzer's reception in Spanish sociology. We identify two modalities of reception, one as a ‘metatheorist of sociology’, around his manuals of sociological theory, and the other as a ‘theorist of social reality’, focusing mainly on consumption. We argue that Ritzer's incorporation into the Spanish sociological field, while important, leaves room for further development in areas such as the standardization of agriculture.
