Description
Abstract
The characteristics of emerging knowledge societies require fundamental changes in the renewal of educational systems, guided by the right to knowledge as a public good rather than as an economic investment and preparation for the job market. However, educational policies recently proposedby the European Union and implemented in Spain and other surrounding countries, associate knowledge to this productive asset, focus on efficiency, school performance and excellence supported by competitiveness and differentiation across schools. This is a model that will increase school failure, inequality and lack of social cohesion. In this paper, we will show the characteristics of emerging knowledge societies, new educational policies related to efficiency and the need for changes in our educational systems proposed in another direction.
