Abstract
El topónimo «Campo de la Matanza» se corresponde con una llanura abierta al norte de la Sierra de Orihuela y que se extiende por las provincias de Murcia y Alicante. Dicho nombre ha dado lugar a diversas leyendas, lo que ha hecho de él que sea un enigma de difícil solución. El presente trabajo indaga en él sobre diversas soluciones.
The toponym «Campo de la Matanza» (Field of Slaughter) relates to a plain which opens to the north of Sierra de Orihuela and runs between the regions of Murcia and Alicante. «Campo de la Matanza» is mentioned in several ancient legends which has made it an enigma that is diffi cult to solve. This work investigates these different legends.
