Abstract
En este artículo se analiza una rama de la familia Jaso, originaria de Jassu, Baja
Navarra, al suroeste de Francia, descendientes del Santo Francisco Javier. A principios del
siglo XVI dos de sus miembros llegaron a la Nueva España y luego de participar en varias
incursiones bélicas en los territorios recién descubiertos, uno de ellos, el conocido Juan de
Jaso el Mozo, se asentó en el pueblo de Tula, en el actual estado de Hidalgo. Ahí estableció
importantes relaciones económicas y matrimoniales que le permitieron acumular un
patrimonio nada despreciable, posicionándolo a él y sus descendientes como parte de la élite
regional.
In this article a branch of Jaso family, originally from Jassu, Lower Navarra, southwest of France, descendants of Saint Francis Xavier is analyzed. In the early sixteenth century two members arrived in New Spain and after participating in several military incursions into the newly discovered territories, one of them, Juan de Jaso known the Mozo, is seat in the town of Tula, current state of Hidalgo. There he established important economic and marital relationships that allowed him to amass a respectable heritage, positioning him and his descendants as part of the regional elite.
