Abstract
El nombramiento de González Bravo como primer ministro, tras la muerte del du-que de Valencia, trajo consigo una concatenación de infaustas decisiones, desatando una muerte anunciada, que terminó por cristalizarse en la Revolución septembrina; desde la deposición del par-tido moderado al autodestierro de la reina IsabelII. Este artículoanaliza estos sucesos en base a un pormenorizado y exhaustivo vaciado de la prensa coetánea, prestando especial atención al discurso crítico y analítico de los diarios progresistas, en especial lA nuevA iBeriA, a fin de conocer en profundidad qué noticias ocupaban los diarios; cuáles eran las que realmente preocupaban a la ciu-dadanía; qué cuestiones y/o disputas transcendieron del plano estrictamente político, implicándose los bastiones editoriales representantes de los grandes partidos; hasta qué punto la prensa ejerció su función de cuarto poder; y cuál fue su grado de conocimiento en todo aquel proceso revolucionario. --------------------------
The appointment of González Bravo as a Prime Minister, after the Duke of Valen-cia’s death, brought a chain of unfortunate decisions, triggering an announced death, which ended up crystallising in the September Revolution; from the deposition of the moderate party to the self-exile of Queen ElizabethII. This article analyzes each events based on a detailed and thorough re-search of the contemporary press, paying special attention to the critical and analytical discourse of progressive newspapers, especially La Nueva IberIa, in order to know in depth what information was published in the newspapers; what news was that one about which the citizens were really con-cerned; what issues and/or disputes transcended the strictly political dimension, getting involved the editorial bastions representing the major parties; to what extent the press exercised its fourth power function; and what was its degree of knowledge in all that revolutionary process.
