Description
Abstract
Equality of opportunities is the method chosen to work on gender in social justice. We presume that the goal of justice is to guarantee equality of opportunities for males and females. This paper claims that just to consider opportunities implies generating significant injustices. The main proposal is to think about power, which is understood as the meeting point of opportunities and abilities. The best way to work for equality is to provide men and women with the same power. It needs some fundamental principles: to rescue the importance of abilities, to unmask the pretence of merit, to define outstanding powers, to denounce the use of social standards in the creation of disabilities and to do without the theory of opportunities to build social justice.
