Abstract
Desde sus orígenes la psiquiatría ha tenido la necesidad de contactar con la experiencia personal del sujeto enfermo más allá de las etiquetas con que se le ha diagnosticado. En este sentido los testimonios de experiencias narradas en primera persona por pacientes afectos de enfermedad mental han cobrado creciente relevancia tanto desde la perspectiva social como histórica de la disciplina. La historieta ha tenido desde que a finales del siglo XX irrumpe la novela gráfica –obra de autor, de tirada limitada y de expresión estilística libre- una acusada vertiente autobiográfica. En las novelas gráficas los temas relacionados con trastornos mentales se han abordado bien desde la ficción, bien por parte de testigos del proceso de personas afectas o bien por estas mismas personas, constituidas en narradores de su propia experiencia personal. El presente trabajo se centra en la descripción y análisis de las catorce novelas gráficas publicadas en España producidas por autores afectos de trastorno mental convertidos en narradores de sí mismos. Describimos los conceptos sobre enfermedad mental; la expresión de sus síntomas; el impacto en la vida de los autores, sus experiencias en la asistencia y en la recepción social de sus problemas.
Since its origins, psychiatry has had the need to contact the personal experience of the sick subject beyond the labels with which they have been diagnosed. The testimonies of experiences narrated in the first person by patients affected by mental illness have become increasingly relevant both from the social and historical perspective of the discipline. Since the graphic novel emerged at the end of the 20th century – a work of authorship, limited circulation and free stylistic expression – the comic strip has had a marked autobiographical aspect. In graphic novels, topics related to mental disorders have been addressed either through fiction, by witnesses of the process of affected people, or by these same people, who become narrators of their own personal experience. This work focuses on the description and analysis of the fourteen graphic novels published in Spain produced by authors suffering from mental disorders who have become narrators of themselves. We describe the concepts of mental illness; the expression of your symptoms; the impact on the lives of the authors, their experiences in assistance and the social reception of their problems.
