Description
Abstract
Abstract: Reboredo and García are two surnames that usually appear in the catalogs of pieces of Galician silversmithing of the nineteenth century, due to the use of their nominal marks. However, until now we knew nothing about their careers, their families, the location of their shops or the context of the position of contrast of the city, which both held. In addition, we also did not know their family relationship, since they were father-in-law and son-in-law respectively. Through our work with the documents of the Municipal Archive, especially the civil registry, censuses and consistories, as well as the Archive of the Royal Economic Society and the Archive of the Cathedral of Santiago, we have been able to answer these questions. In the review of the pieces so far published of Reboredo and García, we have made an attribution of marks and works taking into account the different silversmiths of the surname Reboredo, and the fact that the title of contrast complicates the attribution of the pieces when they are not marked by the silversmith.
