dc.description.abstract	El entorno de la información académica está cambiando sobremanera a medida que entramos en el milenio. Estos cambios están afectando a las bibliotecas y, concretamente, a los servicios de referencia. En el pasado, e incluso recientemente, los bibliotecarios se han dedicado a la orientación bibliotecaria, formación de usuarios, e instrucción bibliográfica. Ahora tienen que preocuparse por enseñar a estudiantes y a otros colectivos información útil y destrezas informáticas para que puedan manejarse con eficacia en la sociedad de la información. El trabajo de referencia tal y como se ha practicado en este siglo sufrirá cambios drásticos en el entorno de la información electrónica, y la enseñanza de habilidades de información eficaces se convertirá en un componente muy importante de los servicios de referencia. Los retos, así presentados a los bibliotecarios académicos, son grandes, pero el éxito en esta área significará la eficaz supervivencia de la profesión.	en_EN
dc.description.abstract	ABSTRACT: The academic information environment is changing greatly as we enter the millennium. These changes are affecting libraries and, specifically, reference services. In the past and even in recent times librarians have been concerned with library orientation, library instruction, and bibliographic instruction. Now they have to worry about teaching students and others viable information and computer skills to cope effectively in the information society. Reference work as practiced this century will undergo major changes in the electronic information environment, and the teaching of effective information skills will become a very important component of reference services. The challenges thus presented to academic librarians will be great but success in this area will mean effective professional survival.
