Description
Abstract
This paper studies the institutional repositories of Spanish public universities in order to know their current state of the art. It also measures the role that these information systems play in their institutions by applying a set of parameters related with technical issues , institutional policies and the degree of their implementation (number of documents , statistics of use and volume of downloaded documents). In the development of this work we have analysed 49 universities. The data were obtained mainly from the website of the digital repository. The results largely confirm those reported by other authors especially with the type of managed document refers (doctoral theses and articles). From this updated view of the state of the art, some improvement measures and future recommendations are proposed . The main conclusion of this study is that the role of the repositories as guarantors of open access as a new form of scientific communication is reaffirmed.
