Description
Abstract
The study of dies is a barely used technique in relation to medieval Iberian coinage. In addition to quantifying the series, the repetition of dies allows us to deduce some guidelines on the functioning of itinerant workshops of moneyers in the Leonese and Castilian space of the 12th century. In most cases, we can assume that the group of moneyers was small and that there is a tendency to replace the dies as they wear out and that for each inferior die between two and three superior dies are prepared, which continue to be used when the lower one has also lost its usefulness.
