Abstract
La actual personalidad demográfica del territorio de Cartagena-La Unión se ha ido conformando
con la sucesión histórica de las transformaciones económicas y sociales acaecidas en esta
comarca. El Campo de Cartagena constituye en la actualidad una unidad conformada en torno a procesos
como: el asentamiento de residentes extranjeros; el establecimiento de una significativa población
laboral; la residencialidad en las pedanías y diputaciones, antes más rurales, de residentes autóctonos
y extranjeros procedentes del otro municipio de la zona. Se presenta un análisis histórico focalizado
en las actuales características demográficas y de poblamiento de los municipios de Cartagena y
La Unión que ayuda a esclarecer los actuales procesos de residencialidad de sus habitantes
The current demographic personality of the Cartagena - La Union territory has been com-plying with the historical succession of the economic and social transformations which have takenplace in this region. Campo de Cartagena is now a unit formed to processes such as: the settlement offoreign residents; the establishment of a significant workforce; the residential process in the districtsand territorial, before rural-areas, indigenous residents from another municipality in the area. It is presented a historical analysis focused on the current demographic and inhabits characteristics of themunicipalities of Cartagena and La Union which helps to clarify the current processes of residentialprocess of its inhabitants.
