Abstract
Se presenta el concepto, importancia y problemática de las variedades locales. Se analizan
las herramientas, políticas, instrumentos y marco legislativo disponibles para la conservación de
los Recursos Fitogenéticos para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (RFAA), en el ámbito internacional,
europeo y estatal. Se sintetiza la situación actual de los RFAA tras la firma de los principales
acuerdos y convenios firmados en el marco del Convenio sobre la Diversidad Biológica y de la
Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Agricultura y la Alimentación (FAO). Se presentan
propuestas agroecológicas para conservar los RFAA locales como medio para superar la crisis
alimentaria actual; así como las herramientas emanadas de la Agroecología, como son los bancos
de semillas de los agricultores para lograr la soberanía y seguridad alimentaria de los pueblos.
Finalmente, se hace una breve reflexión sobre la necesidad de un cambio en el sistema y política
agroalimenaria para conservar los RFAA locales.
Summary: The state of phytogenetic resources from a seed networks perspective This article presents the concept, importance and problems of landraces. It analyzes the tools, politics, instruments and legal framework available for the conservation of the Phytogenetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (PRFA) in the international, european and national level. It summarises the current situation of the PRFA after the signature of the main agreements in the framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It presents agroecological proposals in order to conserve the PRFA as a way to overcome the current food crisis, as well as tools than come from Agroecology, such as farmers seed banks to reach food sovereignty and security of peoples. Finally, it makes a brief reflection on the need for a change in the agri-food system and politics for the conservation of the local PRFA.
