Description
Abstract
individuo.
The field of second language acquisition research has focused on two areas: the nature of the language aquisition process and the factors which affect language learners. Initially research was essentially based on teachers 'behaviour and their effect on learners. More recently, researchers have been attempting to describe how acquisition occurs and how learners 'factors may explain differential success among learners. Research methods have also been adopted to clarify the numerous factors which shape the second language instructional experience. The paper suggests that the next phase of research will be characterized by a union of quantitative and qualitative methods. This combination of methods will help to examine the two focal areas: the learning and the leamer.
