Description
Abstract
Parallel Corpus of German and Spanish
(PaGeS)
. Observamos que
cuando se aplican técnicas
de ampliación lingüística para traducir al español
adverbios oracionales en /
-weise/, estas pueden acarrear cambios en el plano
interpersonal del
COMPROMISO
, esto es, en la negociación de las actitudes del
hablante con sus interlocutores.
The formal parallelism between the German sentence adverbs derived with the suffix / -weise/ and those in Spanish derived with the suffix /- mente/ has been studied in Contrastive Linguistics; not so much attention has been payed, though to this phenomenon in Translation Studies. On the other hand, as carriers of interpersonal meaning, sent ence adverbs are especially amenable to a description with the tools of Appraisal Theory. Firstly, the fine -grained classification of German sentence adverbs by Helbig & Buscha (1998) is taken as a starting point to relate the different types of sentence a dverbs —including those derived with /- weise/ — with the appraisal phenomena of affect and commitment and, therefore, with the interpersonal metafunction of language. Secondly, the equivalents of sentence adverbs in / weise/ in both translation directions (DE>ES and ES>DE) are studied in a secondary sample corpus obtained from the Parallel Corpus of German and Spanish (PaGeS). Changes in the commitment as a layer of interpersonal meaning —that is, in the negotiation of the speaker's/writer’s attitudes with h is interlocutors — were observed when linguistic extension techniques had been applied to translate German sentence adverbs ending in /- weise/ into Spanish.
