Abstract
El trabajo social sanitario surge a comienzos del siglo XX de la mano de Richard Cabot y de Ida Cannon en el Hospi-tal General de Massachusetts. Por ello, el objetivo de este trabajo consiste en explicar de forma sucinta, primeramente, las contribuciones de Richard Cabot y de Ida Cannon y, seguidamente, las de Nicasio Landa y Concepción Arenal para, finalmente, mostrar las similitudes y diferencias halladas entre EE. UU. y España en el proceso de surgimiento del proto-trabajo social sanitario. Se ha utilizado una metodología histórico-sistemática. La novedad de esta aporta-ción radica en que es la primera vez que se considera a Concepción Arenal como la primera proto-trabajadora social sanitaria de la historia del trabajo social en España.
Health Social Work emerged at the beginning of the 20th century with Richard Cabot and Ida Cannon at the Mas-sachusetts General Hospital. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to explain succinctly, firstly, the contributions of Richard Cabot and Ida Cannon, secondly, those of Nicasio Landa and Concepción Arenal, and finally, to show the similarities and differences found between the USA and Spain in the process of the emergence of proto-Health So-cial Work. A historical-systematic methodology has been used. The novelty of this contribution lies in the fact that it is the first time that Concepción Arenal has been considered as the first proto-health social worker in the history of Social Work in Spain.
