Description
Abstract
The article undertakes to analyze literary representations of the figure of the intellectual in Spanish novels of the turn of the 20th century: Los mares del sur (1979) by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán and La conquista del aire (1998) by Belén Gopegui. It refers to some statements of Zygmunt Bauman on the decline of the era of legislators, understanding this concept as a type of intellectual that sets himself up as both authority and guide of his nation. In both novels it is posssible to detect signs of crisis of the traditional model of the intellectual as well as traces of a new direction in the redefined intellectual practice.
