Description
Abstract

The figure of María Magdalena is reformulated in contemporary literature coming to be considered a feminist emblem, embodying human vulnerability and demonstrating powerful spiritual resilience. Throughout this study we will show how her image is projected in the work of some modernist writers (such as José Martí, Francisco A. de Icaza, José Asunción Silva) and how it is reformulated by contemporary Latin American poets (Juana de Ibarbouru, Gabriela Mistral and Claribel Alegría), who will celebrate their human nature in the search for their own identity.
