Description
Abstract
This article seeks to highlight the main lines of the debates on populism in Spain in recent years. As these debates have taken place mostly, but not exclusively, within academia, it will examine intellectual contributions with significant influence on the discussion or representative of prevalent views on the populist question. After a brief review of the main milestones of the recent reception and development of the debate in Spain, we will begin by addressing the understanding of what populism is and what it responds to, as well as its rejection of liberal positions and its republican reception, before analysing the various ways in which the populist phenomenon is thought in relation to future political praxis. As we will see, this transit cannot be traversed without considering the type of articulation between concepts such as (post) hegemony, sovereignty, representation, nation or people, and reflecting on the relationship between subject and culture under the neoliberal regime. The relevance of the topic, its very different modulations, and the public presence that it has acquired, advise the consideration of further sources beyond the strictly academic ones.
