Abstract
The conclusion of various Peace Treaties between European powers around 1598-1609 marked the beginning of a period of prosperity in the Cantabrian ports that regained access to their traditional commercial channels. Then, the port of Avilés stood out as an export center for Castilian wool, a product demanded by the French merchants. For this reason, a French agent called Pedro Bertin settled there. Its multiple mentions in written sources will allow us to analyze his activity as an intermediary, his commercial businesses, and his fast track integration.
