    A review of literature on history education: An analysis of the conceptual, intellectual and social structure of a knowledge domain

    In recent decades, Historical Thinking and Historical Consciousness have been two fundamental axes of research in history education. The first approach combines the use of historical sources and the work of the historian. The second includes the social function of history, identity, memory and civic and moral education. These two approaches attempt to provide students with the necessary intellectual tools for analysing the past and relating it to an understanding of problems in the present time. This article reviews the development and shaping of the knowledge domain of history education between 2000 and 2019 in the WoS (Web of Science). To this end, several techniques and tools were used, including R-package Bibliometrix and VOSviewer. Our analysis identifies five clusters of topics underpinning history education as a specific field of knowledge. This review highlights the fact that research topics associated with Historical Thinking and Historical Consciousness have gradually acquired a more central role to the detriment of History Textbooks or topics generally related to History. Finally, we describe how the termHistory Educationfunctions as a marker for this knowledge domain.

    Cobertura y solapamiento de Web of Science y Scopus en el análisis de la actividad científica española en psicología

    Este estudio tiene como primer objetivo conocer el volumen y evolución de la producción científica española en psicología a partir de las bases de datos del Web of Science (Thomson Reuters) y Scopus (Elsevier), durante el periodo 2000-2009. A partir de allí, se propone determinar cuáles son las revistas científicas más utilizadas por los psicólogos españoles para difundir sus trabajos a nivel internacional y comparar la cobertura y solapamiento de revistas y documentos que presentan ambas bases de datos. Se ofrecen datos cuantitativos, se estudia la posible correlación entre las dos bases de datos y se analiza el solapamiento de documentos y de revistas, el modelo de crecimiento que presentan y la dispersión de los trabajos, entre otros. Los resultados muestran que ambos sistemas de información son complementarios pero no excluyentes, así como la relevancia e importancia de las revistas españolas de psicología en la difusión de la investigación de esta disciplina en el contexto internacional de la ciencia.

    La Literatura y su relación con otras disciplinas científicas vista a través de las revistas científicas

    Entre las diversas metodologías científicas para medida de la ciencia, el Análisis de Redes Sociales (ARS) se perfila como un instrumento muy útil para evaluar la calidad de las redes que se pueden establecer desde la ciencia. El ARS permite la simulación de las relaciones que se establecen entre diversos elementos, tal y como pueden ser la colaboración científica, el análisis de materias o las relaciones entre revistas científicas. Se han seleccionado para este trabajo como fuentes de información las bases de datos Arts & Humanities Citation Reports (A&HCI) y Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) de la Web of Science (WoS). Desde estas bases de datos, se analiza el comportamiento presentado por las 550 revistas clasificadas en las diferentes categorías temáticas de literatura. Se comprueba que la interdisciplinariedad actual en literatura resulta de la colaboración con otras 11 ramas científicas, entre las que destacan la lingüística y la historia.

    Production of biodiesel under supercritical conditions: State of the art and bibliometric analysis

    The demand for biodiesel as an alternative and potentially renewable fuel is constantly rising. Biodiesel production from lipids in supercritical conditions offers several advantages over other catalytic processes. These advantages include high-efficiency production, environmental friendliness and the possibility of using a broad range of feedstock sources. As a consequence, there is a great interest in biodiesel production research using supercritical fluids as a sustainable technology option. In this sense, bibliometric reviews can be very useful for the interpretation of scientific production and research trends in this field. Thus, this work presents a scientometric study on biodiesel production research under supercritical conditions from 2001 to 2019, based on the Web of Science© database. 608 articles were analyzed and the parameters considered were: (i) publication type, language and output characteristics, (ii) Lotka's Law, Price's index and h-index, (iii) authors, countries and institutions collaboration analysis, (iv) publication performance by authors, journals, institutions and countries and (v) author keywords, single title words and keywords Plus analysis. The productivity patterns of authors, journals, institutions and authors keywords were found to fit Lotka's law. In terms of feedstock used in supercritical conditions, the bibliometric analysis showed a clear transition from first- to third-generation biodiesel, with special attention paid to the experimental study of supercritical reaction conditions. By contrast, further process optimization, the reduction of the severity of the supercritical conditions through devised strategies to lower energy consumption and further economic analysis are still needed, among other factors, for the real implementation of the technology.

    Research trends in physical activity and breast cancer: a 25-year bibliometric analysis (2000–2025) using the bibliometrix R package

    Introduction: Research on physical activity and breast cancer has grown steadily over the past 25 years, with a progressive shift from physiological and safety-related questions towards clinical, psychosocial and implementation domains. Objective: To describe research trends, key actors and thematic foci in the scientific literature on physical activity and breast cancer between 2000 and 2025. Methods: We included articles and reviews without language restrictions, published between 2000 and 2025 and indexed in Scopus, PubMed and Web of Science. Records were exported in CSV format and analysed using the Bibliometrix package in R. We described publication and citation volume, collaboration patterns (countries, institutions and authors), core journals according to Bradford’s law, and the semantic evolution of the field based on keyword co-occurrence and trend topics. Results: We identified 13,329 documents on physical activity and breast cancer, with a sustained increase in both publications and citations over the study period. A marked geographical concentration was observed, with leadership by high-income, mainly Anglophone countries and a limited number of specialised editorial cores, as well as a small group of highly influential authors. The thematic analysis showed a shift from studies focused on functional capacity and safety towards clinical practice guidelines, survivorship and quality of life, alongside emerging lines such as prehabilitation, remote interventions and tele-exercise. Conclusions: The field of physical activity and breast cancer shows a high and growing scientific output with a clear clinical orientation. Integrating exercise prescription into oncological care pathways, defining and standardising dose–response schemes according to tumour phenotype and clinical context, and expanding multicentre studies that include under-represented regions and populations—particularly in low- and middle-income countries—are recommended priorities for future research and practice.

    Social media and television: a bibliographic review based on the Web of Science

    One of the most important trends in current television research has to do with the increasing impact of social media on viewing and consumption. This article reviews the literature on social media and television included in the Web of Science database from 2005 to 2013 in order to find the main research questions guiding academic research within media studies. The topics investigated included the theoretical approach and definition of social television, the central role of Twitter as the main social tool for second-screen activities, the prominence of “reality TV” as the most social genre on television, and new mainstream forms of television fandom. The conclusion of this article reflects on possible limitations of these studies and new paths of research.

    Valores de referencia en el número de autores en las mejores publicaciones de revistas científcas en el área de las ciencias de la actividad física y del deporte

    El propósito del presente estudio es analizar el número de autores de los principales artículos relacionados con las ciencias de la actividad física y del deporte de la Web of Science. Para ello se analizaron los 10 artículos con mayor número de citas de las 10 revistas con mayor índice de impacto del año 2012 (JCR), del área temática “Sport Science” y los 10 artículos con mayor número de citas de las 10 revistas relacionadas con las ciencias del deporte, con mayor índice de impacto del año 2012 (JCR), del Área “Hospitality Leisure Sport Tourism”. Los resultados más signifcativos señalaron que: a) el número medio de autores en las revistas del área temática “Sport Science”, está entre 3-4 autores, mientas que en las revistas relacionadas con las ciencias del deporte del Área “Hospitality Leisure Sport Tourism”, se sitúa entre 2-3 autores. Estos datos pueden servir de referencia tanto a evaluadores como a evaluados en sus diferentes criterios.

    Web of science vs. scopus: un estudio cuantitativo en ingeniería química

    El propósito de este estudio es ofrecer a los investigadores químicos, una visión clara y práctica, aplicando métodos cuantitativos, sobre las dos plataformas de información científica más extendidas hoy día: Web of Science (Thomson Reuters) y Scopus (Elsevier). Se llevaron a cabo, en ambas bases de datos una búsqueda especializada en el área de la ingeniería química, entre 1999 y 2008. A través de los artículos recuperados en las búsquedas, durante esos diez años, y las revistas recuperadas de 2006, se analiza la posible correlación entre ambos sistemas; el modelo de crecimiento que presentan y ciertos parámetros de ese crecimiento; el solapamiento entre las dos bases de datos, la dispersión de los artículos en las revistas y medidas de concentración, entre otros. Los resultados muestran la existencia de una alta semejanza entre Web of Science y Scopus, resultando complementarios, pero no excluyentes, respecto a su posible utilización por los ingenieros químicos.
