    Abandonos educativos en las transiciones post obligatorias: el peso de los resultados educativos desde la interseccionalidad

    The dropout rate in education and training highlights the unequal educational opportunities available to young people, depending on their social background, gender, and immigrant status. Nonetheless, these factors operate differently in the decision to continue or drop out based on previous academic performance and the transition point in education. Using register data of all students enrolled in Catalonia at non-university levels, we have analysed the continuation or dropout trajectories of the cohort of students (a total of 37,128) born in 2001 who were enrolled in public schools. The results show the relevance of previous educational performance as a predictor of dropout, particularly after ESO and in the academic track. Intersectional analysis suggests that, at the end of compulsory secondary education, low grades increase the probability of dropout for the immigrant population compared to local students, but the prob-abilities are similar when the average grade is 6 or higher. In contrast, in the vocational track, average and high grades have a greater effect on the continuity of locals than on immigrants, for whom dropout relies less on previous performance. For the academic track, the results show a compensatory effect of grades for the population with an immigrant background, with no differences by gender.
