Burnout and job satisfaction among nurses in three Spanish regions
(Wiley, 2021-05-17) Acea-López, Lorena; Pastor Bravo, María del Mar; Rubinat-Arnaldo, Esther; Bellon, Filip; Blanco-Blanco, Joan; Gea-Sánchez, Montserrat; Briones-Vozmediano, Erica; Enfermería; Facultad de Enfermería
Aims: To determine the levels of job satisfaction and burnout syndrome and related factors among nurses in three Spanish regions. Background: The nursing profession involves high work stress due to emotional involvement, workload and available resources. Methods: Descriptive multicentric cross-sectional study. Sociodemographic and migration data were collected and participants completed the Job Satisfaction Questionnaire S20/23 and Maslach Burnout Inventory. The data were analysed using descriptive statistical methods using the program SPSS. Results: The sample included 228 nurses (187 women and 41 men), with a mean age of 37.11 ± 10.87. Reported job satisfaction was medium to high. Overall, values were low in emotional fatigue and medium in depersonalization and personal fulfilment. In terms of migration, 21.59% of the participants had already moved to other Spanish regions or another country, while 18.58% had the intention of doing so. Conclusion: Nurses with a temporary contract showed a high burnout rate, and high levels of emotional fatigue, depersonalization and lack of personal fulfilment. Implications for Nursing Management: Strategies are needed to improve working and contractual conditions such as enhancing teamwork, management and leadership skills in nurses; achieving internal promotion; and having higher participation in decision-making and a better balance of power between health institution managers and health professionals.

Nutritional review of the methodology applied in sports supplementation research
(Mattioli1885, 2022-12-23) Cantero, Leticia; Conde-Pipo, Javier; Jimenez-Casquet, Maria José; Latorre, Jose Antonio; Gimenez-Blasi, Nuria; Martinez-Bebia, Manuel; Bach-Faig, Anna; Olea-Serrano, Fatima; Mariscal-Arcas, Miguel; Tecnología de Alimentos, Nutrición y Bromatología
Both high-performance athletes and amateurs resort to taking supplements in order to improve their performance and/or their health. Many of them do not know the effects of these and take them without a professional supervision. The aim is to know the population who is studied by other different studies related to supplementation and improvement of sports performance and the nutritional method used in these cases. Systematic bibliographic research (March-May2021) was carried out in MEDLINE, with Boolean operators (((((caffeine[MeSH Major Topic]) OR (creatine[MeSH Major Topic])) OR (nitrate[MeSH Major Topic])) OR (sodium bicarbonate[MeSH Major Topic])) AND (dietary supplement[MeSH Terms])) AND (athletic performance[MeSH Terms]). 17 articles were included. Mean participants of these studies were 16.8subjects, which corresponds to a small sample. Only two studies were conducted to women. Several others were based on people who are not considered high-performance. In most of the selected studies, there is no a nutritional assessment, dietary record or follow-up of the subjects’ diet before and during the intervention, and this is a limitation. In order to reach accurate conclusions about supplementation and optimization of sports perfor mance, it is necessary to know the nutritional and hydration status, supplementation habits and lifestyle of the participants in these trials are.

Prevalence of Sports Practice among Mexican Adults in 2002 and 2014
(Murcia: Servicio de publicaciones de la Universidad de Murcia, 2020) Ortiz Hernández, Luis; Ayala Hilario, Carolina; Ayala Guzmán, César Iván
Theaim of our study was to know the change over time of sports practice prevalence in Mexican adults and its socio-demographic correlates. We analyzed the Mexican National Survey of Time Use (ENUT) conduc-ted in 2002 and 2014; which is based on a representative sample of Mexican adults. Through a questionnaire, it was inquired if people practised sport in the previous week of the interview and the time spent to do it. The in-dependent variables were sociodemographic characteristics. We found that the prevalence of sports practice increased between 2002 and 2014 (from 15.8% to 29.3%). Being single or having a high socioeconomic position was associated with a higher probability of sports practice. Men and city dwe-llers had higher probabilities of practice sport compared with their counter-parts; although these differences tended to decrease. We conclude that the prevalence of sports practice in Mexico has increased, but it remains low. We identified groups with lower probabilities to practice sport in which efforts can be focused to promote active lifestyles.

Stances on hate speech: Population opinions and attitudes
    (2023) Cáceres Zaparero, M. D.; Paz Rebollo, M. A.; Brändle, Gaspar; Sociología
This research aims to know the opinions and attitudes of the Spanish population towards hate speech through a survey of 1,022 persons of both sexes and over 16 years of age. The results show a high awareness of hate speech: participants could identify these messages, assess their different intensities of severity, and understand the harm it causes. This high awareness may be because almost half of the sample has felt alluded to by these types of messages at some point. This group is more proactive in denouncing and counterattacking hate messages, although it is more frequent to remain on the sidelines. There is a hierarchy in the ratings in which racist and sexist comments are considered more severe thanthose directed at other minority groups (e.g., homeless people). Among the main reasons why people publish these expressions, participants point to the education of the authors, in particular, the rudeness and disrespect that are also perceived as a generalized aspect in today’s society. The polarized Spanish political context is seen as beneficial to the appearance of these messages, as well as the lack of a democratic culture that respects ideological diversity. What is most interesting is that although there is awareness of the seriousness of hate messages in other spheres and towards various groups, hate speech has become normalized in politics, as previously stated.
