- ItemOpen AccessA bibliometric insight into sports participation and socio-economic mobility(Servicio de Publicaciones. Universidad dde Murcia, 2026) Mohapatra, Samapika; Prasad, Sonu; Sinha, Shalu; Sin departamento asociadoResearchers investigated the domain of social mobility and sports (SM&S), analyzing the influence of sports on social mobility and socio-economic factors. This study employed bibliometric analysis to examine previous research on the relationship between sports and social mobility. The objective was to identify unexplored areas by reviewing 582 scholarly papers from WoS published between 1992 and 2023. Geographical mapping displays how research activity is spread out in different regions, while keyword co-occurrence mapping identifies important topics. The research highlighted the exponential growth in the number of documents from 1992 to 2023, particularly after 2003. Geographically, the influence of developed nations was evident in the research. Author co-citation analysis classifies authors into four distinct schools of thought. The results indicate a transition towards a broader and more integrated approach in sports research, emphasising the influence of economics, sociology, wellness, and participation factors. For future research, there is a call for more thematic reviews to delve deeper into the four SM&S thematic strands.
- PublicationOpen AccessActividad física de los estudiantes antes y durante el confinamiento COVID-19 en España(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2023) Gámez Payá, Javier; Vegara Ferri, José Miguel; Angosto Sánchez, Salvador; Carboneros Castro, María; López Gullón, José MaríaThe closure of educational centers was one of the first measures against COVID-19, preventing physical education in classrooms. The aim of this study is to analyze the physical activity practice of adolescent students before and during the COVID-19 lockdown period in Spain. A total of 4508 high school students with a mean age of 15.8 years (±1.1 years) completed the IPAQ Questionnaire short version. The results show how students significantly decreased the duration and frequency of physical activity during confinement. The expenditure in MET-minutes/week has decreased by 46.8%, highlighting the low intensity activity "walking" which has decreased by 91.1% between both periods. The percentage of students performing a low level of physical activity has increased from 24.1% before confinement to 41.3% during this period. However, 36% of the students performing a low level of physical activity before quarantine have gone on to perform a medium or high level of physical activity during quarantine. These results help to understand and analyze the behavior of adolescent students during the lockdown period.
- PublicationOpen AccessAnalysis of the history of ball sports(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2022) Abdulsalam, Zahiah Sabah; Abdulameer, Wafaa Hussein; Hamza, Jamal SakranSports are one of the important topics that are still included a sub-topic in the school curricula. Ball sports are considered one of the most important sports in our societies today because of their wide and enthusiastic audience. The aim of the study was to analyze the history of ball games, namely football, handball, basketball and volleyball, and to study them as a general historical follow-up study with a simple initial formula. It was also aimed to study the importance of sports to humans. There is a close relationship between ball games and environmental conditions. The place and the climate had an impact on the discovery of some of these games. Some of them have a wide and likable audience, and some were practiced by a certain aristocracy, and had an ethnic influence on their practice because of their popularity. Others derived from a second game played with new atmospheres and new laws. As long as there is a development in human life in general and in the sports fields in particular, we will find that sports are required and renewed, and this development must result in the discovery of new games, which in turn will enter the competitive fields.

- PublicationOpen AccessAssociation between group cohesion and pre-competition mood states in youth athletes(Universidad de Murcia. Servicio de publicaciones, 2022) Foschiera, Diogo Bertella; Stefanello, Joice Mara Facco; Legnani, Rosimeide Francisco Santos; Legnani, EltoThe purpose of this study is to analyze the possible associations of group cohesion and pre-competition mood states of youth athletes. This is a cross-sectional and quantitative study. The sample was composed of 81 athletes from both sexes, who practice collective modality sports, with average of age of 15.8±1.0 years. Data was collected through the Group Environment Questionnaire and POMS Inventory –Reduced, on the week prior to the athletes’ participation in state competitions. Spearman's correlation coefficient and binary logistic regression were used to analyze the data. The results indicate positive and significant correlations of group cohesion dimensions (p<0.05) with the vigor mood dimension, and negative and significant correlations (p<0.05) with tension, depression, anger, fatigue and confusion dimensions. Both group cohesion types (social and task) significantly predicted the mood state profiles. The highest predictive statistical indicator was presented by task cohesion (OR=2.481; IC=1.477-4.167; p<0.001). The results found offer evidence to confirm the prior expectation that higher levels of group cohesion are associated with better pre-competitive mood states profiles in youth athletes. Theresults suggest that higher group cohesion levels can affect positively the pre-competition mood states in youth athletes.

- PublicationOpen AccessEffect of rule modifications on kinematic parameters using maturity stage as a moderating variable in U-10(MDPI, 2024-04-11) Palao, José Manuel; García Angulo, Francisco Javier; Giménez Egido, José María; Ortega Toro, Enrique; Actividad Física y DeporteThe aim of the present study was to analyse the effects of regulatory modifications in competitive situations on cinematic variables, considering maturity stage as a moderating factor, in youth football players. A quasi-experimental study was conducted in which 45 players with a mean age of 9.47 ± 0.54 participated. The independent variable analysed was the modification of rules (playing time, scoring, and specific rules). The dependent variables analysed were cinematic variables. These variables were recorded with WimuTM. The maturity stage was considered a moderating factor in this effect. The main results indicate that the modified competition reduced the total distance covered, maximum acceleration speed, and distance covered in acceleration and deceleration in different speed zones. In addition, the maturity stage was found to moderate the effect of the intervention on the total distance covered, distance covered by accelerating in zone 3, and distance covered by decelerating in zone 3. Thus, the proposed modification appeared to reduce the physical demand for competition. Furthermore, it reduced the differences between players with early maturational development and those with late maturational development.
