After arriving in the United States, a strong friendship was established between the Italian critic Renato Poggioli and the writers Pedro Salinas and Jorge Guillén. Salinas will be part of the editorial board of the Florentine magazine Inventario, co-directed by Poggioli with Luigi Berti. Salinas serves as a bridge between Poggioli and Leo Spitzer, closely linked to Italy. After Salinas's death, Poggioli he published in Italy, in the collection All'insegna del Pesce d'Oro by Vanni Scheiwiller, his book Becoming a Shadow and Other Poems, with a memory where he affectionately describes his friend and his way of being. His was the project of a book with poems by Salibnas and Guillén, where each of them chose the other's poems, unfortunately it would not be published.
