Servicio de Publicaciones, 2014-01-31) Piñero Ruiz, Eugenia; López Espín, José Juan; Torres Cantero, Alberto Manuel; Arense Gonzalo, Julián JesúsThe aim of this research study was to analyze school violence and victimization in secondary schools in the Region of Murcia (Spain). Data on the impact of school violence and victimization were collected from a sample of 2,503 students. Half of students had been involved in some episode of violence, and 40% in some episode of victimization. Higher levels of school violence and victimization were found in boys than in girls. The highest levels were reported among 1st grade secondary education students, and there was a decline in higher grades. We did not find any differences in violence or victimization between state and private schools. Foreign students were victims more often. Victimization and school violence are common phenomena and all students are at risk of being victims. A global approach should guide preventive interventions to address these problems.
