Estimulación magnética transcraneal aplicada en la recuperación de la disfagia
(2022) Jiménez Martínez, Cristina; González Javier, Francisca; Sin departamento asociado; Facultades de la UMU::Facultad de Psicología y Logopedia
Orofacial dysphagia (OD) is a very widespread pathology in people who suffer from a cerebrovascular accident (CVA). Due to the fatal consequences that can affect those who suffer from it, and can even lead to death, its importance is of great importance and there are several techniques used for it, including transcranial magnetic stimula-tion (TMS) treatment, but there is much discrepancy about its effectiveness and on the most suitable protocols for its application. Objective: The objective of this Systematic Review was to verify the most recent evi-dence on the protocols for the application of TMS in patients with this pathology and if it is considered adequate to be used as a rehabilitation treatment by professionals. Also check which of the main application models is more beneficial. Method: To do this, a search was made in the PubMed and Medline databases for re-cent articles that used TMS as a rehabilitative treatment for dysphagia both in pa-tients with stroke and those in whom the pathology presented because of aging. Outcomes: A total of 10 articles were selected. In their study it was found that there is no consensus when it comes to establishing which is the most appropriate method of applying the technique. The results are very heterogeneous and do not allow estab-lishing protocols or determining that it is an effective technique. Discussion: Although its efficacy cannot be concluded, the findings seem to indicate that it is a method that can provide benefits in the recovery of dysphagia in stroke patients, especially if it is used together with other rehabilitation techniques; many more studies on it.
