Objective: To conduct a comparative analysis of three hagiographies of Bernardino de Obregón—written by Herrera Maldonado (1633), Pedro Íñiguez (1639), and Luis Bernardino de Obregón (1724)—in order to examine how narrative structure, historical context, and source material influenced the construction of his image as a model of sainthood. Methods: comparative analysis structured around three key axes: narrative structure, authorship and context of production, and sources used. Results: The hagiographies differ significantly in style, approach, and function. Herrera presents an exalted portrayal of Bernardino using Baroque literary rhetoric; Íñiguez provides a sober and direct testimony as a member of the congregation; and Luis Bernardino integrates historical analysis and critical documentation. Conclusions: The image of Bernardino varies depending on the author and context, revealing hagiography as a narrative tool for institutional legitimation and symbolic construction.
