Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the most common terms and syntactic patterns with regard to the conceptual category ‘disease’ in original research articles on rare diseases in French and Spanish. The research is specifically focused on the study of the terminology used when referring to the generic concept of health loss or health alterations. Firstly, the characteristics of the comparable corpus we have designed are presented. Secondly, the extracted terms and patterns are classified and analyzed. The results obtained show the presence within the texts of a significant number of terms which are synonymous in nature but whose forms and frequencies of usage do not always correspond in the languages considered in this research.
