- PublicationOpen AccessCarbonic anhydrase II is secreted from bovine parotid glands(Murcia : F. Hernández, 2010) Mau, M.; Kaiser, T.M.; Südekum, K.-H.Besides carbonic anhydrase VI (CA-VI),CA-II is suggested to be a second secreted isoenzyme inruminant saliva. Therefore, the aim of the present studywas to investigate the expression of salivary CA-II inbovine parotid glands at the protein level. Moreover, weintended to identify the cells which secrete the enzymeinto the saliva. Two commercially available CA-IIspecific antibodies were tested for use inimmunohistochemistry on frozen sections of bovineparotid tissue. Intense positive staining for CA-II wasfound in luminal duct cells and for the first time alsoinside the duct lumen, clearly demonstrating theexpression and secretion of salivary CA-II in bovineparotid glands. The presence of CA-II protein wasverified for parotid tissue and whole saliva usingimmunoblot analysis. Both salivary CA-II and CA-VIare highly active in supplying the alimentary tract withbicarbonate. It is suggested that a decrease in theexpression of either one of these enzymes might severelydisturb digestion and/or increase susceptibility toacidosis in ruminants.

J.; Martínez Díaz, F.; Aliaga Sánchez, Alfonso; Oftalmología, Optometría, Otorrinolaringología y Anatomía PatológicaWe present a modification of the extracapsular lumpectomy getting a closure in three layers from a study of benign parotid tumors during the years 2005 to 2014 of the Region of Murcia(Spain) that showed more conservative surgycal techniques: extracapsular lumpectomy vs conservative superficial parotidectomy, with bibliographic support, with 10 figures and 1 table. We conclude by studying surgical techniques (extracapsular lumpectomy with closure in three layers vs extracapsular lumpectomy) used in this region that the lumpectomy, with less sd de Frey and sinking.
- PublicationOpen AccessFine structure of the acinar and duct cell components in the parotid and submandibular salivary glands of the rat: a TEM, SEM, and HRSEM study(Murcia : F. Hernández, 1996) Watanabe, Y.; Seguchi, H.; Okada, T.; Kobayahsi, T.; Jin, Q.S.; Jiang, X.D.Parenchymal and stromal components of the rat parotid and submandibular glands were examined by conventional and high resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM). Freezefractured specimens were subjected to HCI and NaOH extraction procedures to better differentiate connective tissue and cellular components. In addition, the internal three-dimensional morphology of the secretory acinar cells and duct cells was revealed by maceration with a dilute osmium tetroxide solution to selectively remove some of the cytoplasmic components. SEM and HRSEM examination of the HC1- treated samples of both glands revealed a fine filamentous network immediately surrounding each acinus. Coarser bundles of collagen that linked neighboring acini were also observed. NaOH-extracted samples selectively removed the cellular components and showed more clearly the three-dimensional structure of the connective-tissue stroma. A densecollagenous network surrounded each lobule while more internal regions consisted of a honeycomblike pattern of evacuated spaces previously occupied by secretory acini. These spaces were smoothened in appearance and often interconnected. Apicallylocated secretory granules and profiles of the rough endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus in perinuclear regions were encountered in the acinar and duct cells of macerated samples by HRSEM. In addition, a phenylephrine-induced experimental condition performed in some rats resulted in a significant increase in secretory granule size and density of the serous cells.

Se presenta un caso de hiperplasia nodular oncocítica multifocal de la glándula parótida en espacio parafaríngeo de una mujer de 74 a˜nos y se revisan las lesiones oncocíticas de la glándula parótida.

J.; Martínez Díaz, F.; Aliaga Sánchez, Alfonso; Oftalmología, Optometría, Otorrinolaringología y Anatomía PatológicaWe present a detailed study of benign parotid tumors during the years 2005 to 2014 of the Region of Murcia (Spain). The importance of this script lies in the need to show the indication between three surgical techniques from more conservative surgical techniques to more aggressive. We studied 474 cases benign epithelial tumors of the parotid gland, reviewing the surgical records of patients with bibliographic support, with 15 figures and 1 table. Our results show the indication of every kind of surgical technique. We conclude by studying exhaustively, surgical techniques (Superficial parotidectomy, extracapsular lumpectomy and enucleation) used in this region that the lumpectomy is less surgical aggression, and get the same results in superficial and not many big tumors.
- PublicationOpen AccessMetástasis parotídea de carcinoma de células claras renal con presencia simultánea de pseudoaneurisma arterial. Caso clínico y revisión de la literatura(Sociedad Española de Cirugía Oral y Maxilofacial (SECOM), 2023-02-13) García-Molina, Francisco; Ricote Sánchez, Guillermo; Aliaga Rodríguez, Alfonso; Martínez Díaz, Francisco; Aliaga Sánchez, Alfonso; Oftalmología, Optometría, Otorrinolaringología y Anatomía PatológicaLas metástasis en glándula parótida son muy poco frecuentes. Presentamos el caso de una mujer de 73 años cuyos antecedentes oncológicos principales a destacar son carcinoma ductal infiltrante de mama tratado con mastectomía y linfadenectomía axilar y, posteriormente, carcinoma de células renales de célula clara bilaterales metacrónicos tratados con nefrectomía radical. Desde entonces la mujer se encuentra en diálisis. Presenta tumoración en parótida de 4 cm, que radiológicamente es catalogada como pseudoaneurisma arterial intraparotídeo. Tras la extirpación de la parótida, seis años después de la última nefrectomía, en el estudio anatomopatológico se observa, junto a vasos dilatados, lesión neoplásica compatible morfológica e inmunohistoquímicamente con metástasis de carcinoma de células renales de célula clara. Se ha realizado una profunda revisión de la literatura encontrando menos de 60 casos descritos de metástasis parotídea de carcinoma de células renales de célula clara. Analizándolos observamos metástasis en otros lugares en el 61 % de los mismos, principalmente pulmonares, óseas y en glándulas adrenales, existiendo mayor porcentaje de segundas metástasis (70 %) cuando hay sincronía entre carcinoma renal y metástasis parotídea. En conclusión, presentamos un caso inusual de metástasis tardía de carcinoma renal de célula clara en parótida, y el primero, según nuestro conocimiento, que se diagnostica como hallazgo incidental en la extirpación de un aneurisma intraparotídeo.
