- PublicationRestrictedStructural diversity and economic development(University of Sao Paulo, 2009-07) Noguera-Méndez, Pedro; López-Martínez, María; Semitiel-García, María; Economía AplicadaIn the last times Network Theory has emerged as a rigorous metodology to analyse the structural characteristics of complex systems that can be applicable to economics. There have also been critisms doubting about contribution to the knowledge already obtained from the traditional lnput-Output theory. This paper compares the results obtained from tradiúonal lnput-output measures and from network indicators. Data correspond to lnput-Outpul tables from twenty two countries, with different development level, In 1000. lt wlll be shown that both methodologies (lnput-Outpul apd Network) imply complementary techniques offering richer conclusions. The use oí Network Theory allows for a better understanding oi the structural differences that can be related to economlc development.

This paper applies Nelwork Theory and Social Network Analysis to study the structure oí the Spanish interindustry system and iti evolution In the period 1980-2000, The maln objective is to make the network skeleton em,:rge to test the existence of a hierarchical topology where a core anda perlphety can be identiílecl. MDfeover, there are subsystems, in the complex national interindustrial system, that can be idenfied as modules and assimilated to produClion systems. The core can also be characterized analyzing the growing relevance of service sectors and, particularly, of Business Services.
