In the context of museums in Cartagena (Region of Murcia, Spain), it has been considered indispensable to analyze the presence, and role of educators, in the museums object of study. Eight public museums of different types, and a mixed public and private company, managing a series of museums and interpretation centers in the city, as a sample for this research. In the information gathering phase, a quantitative survey has been designed and applied to a sample of 33 4 participants with the aim to cast light on the presence of educational staff in museums, their eligibility requirements, mediation role and functions. It has been confirmed that museum docents are valued and deemed necessary as heads of the Education and Cultural Affairs Department by contributing their experience and expertise to the mediation role and design of didactic materials, which must be specifically applied by guides and socio-cultural organizers.
