- PublicationOpen AccessEffectiveness of eye-cervical re-education versus motor imagery therapy on chronic neck pain: A randomized controlled trial(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2024) Abdel-Aal, Nabil Mahmoud; ElKeblawy, Maher Ahmed; Mohamed Amine, Randa AhmedThe aim of this study was to investigate the effect of adding eye cervical re-education exercises (ECRE) versus motor imagery therapy (MIT) to conventional physical therapy (CPT) on pain, functional disability, and cervical range of motion (ROM) in subjects with chronic neck pain (CNP). The study employed a randomized controlled trial design with 60 patients with CNP. Participants were selected from the outpatient clinics of the Faculty of Physical Therapy at Cairo University and were randomly assigned to three groups: conventional physical therapy only (CPT) (Group I, N = 20), eye-cervical re-education exercises plus CPT (Group II, N = 20), and motor imagery therapy plus CPT (Group III, N = 20). All participants received 3 sessions per week for 4 weeks. Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Neck Range of Motion (ROM) and Neck Disability Index (NDI) were measured at baseline and after 4 weeks of intervention. In terms of pain intensity, neck disability index, neck flexion and extension, right and left lateral flexion, and right and left rotation ROM outcome measures, the results revealed statistically significant differences between groups (p < 0.05). Group II showed statistically significant improvement compared to both Group I and Group III in all measured outcomes (p < 0.05). Additionally, Group III showed statistically significant improvement compared to Group I in all measured outcomes (p < 0.05). Adding eye-cervical re-education exercises or motor imagery therapy to conventional physical therapy resulted in notable improvements. Eye-cervical re-education exercises, in particular, showed greater benefits in reducing pain, enhancing cervical ROM, and decreasing disability compared to conventional physical therapy alone in patients with chronic neck pain.

The aim of this randomized controlled trial was to investigate the impact of mental practice (MP) training on balance and trunk endurance in children with hemiparesis. Forty hemiparetic children (16 boys and 24 girls), aged 7 to 10 years, were randomly assigned to two groups of equal size (20 children per group): control group (Group A) and study group (Group B). The study was conducted at the outpatient clinic of the Pediatric Physical Therapy Department at Mansoura International Hospital and Mansoura Specialized Hospital. Participants were assessed for balance and trunk muscle endurance at baseline and after 3 months of intervention using the modified Clinical Test of Sensory Integration of Balance (mCTSIB) and trunk endurance tests, respectively. Both groups received the same selected physical therapy program, with Group B additionally receiving MP training three times per week for three months. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) (version 28) was used to conduct all of the statistical analyses. Significant differences were observed between the two groups post-treatment regarding mCTSIB scores and trunk endurance tests, favoring the study group (p < 0.05). MP training emerges as a promising intervention to enhance balance and trunk endurance in children with hemiparesis. Healthcare professionals and therapists working with these children should consider integrating the MP program as a valuable component of their therapeutic strategies.
- ItemOpen AccessIncorporating motor imagery into massage education in physiotherapy students.(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2025-11-06) Göker, Aleyna; Güçhan Topcu, Zehra; Sin departamento asociadoObjetivo: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo investigar los efectos de integrar la práctica de laimaginería motora (IM) en los métodos tradicionales de enseñanza sobre las habilidades deimaginería motora y el rendimiento del aprendizaje motor de los estudiantes de fisioterapia.Métodos: Veinticuatro estudiantes fueron asignados aleatoriamente a dos grupos: el Grupo deImaginería Motora (GIM; 21,15 ± 1,46 años) y el Grupo Control (GC; 21,91 ± 1,58 años). Ambosgrupos recibieron inicialmente instrucción tradicional sobre el masaje para el cólico del lactante.Tras una sesión de familiarización, el GIM participó además en prácticas de IM dos veces porsemana durante dos semanas. Las medidas de resultado incluyeron el Cuestionario de ImagineríaMotora-3 (MIQ-3) y pruebas de cronometraje mental. Al final de la intervención, también se obtuvoretroalimentación cualitativa del GIM sobre la experiencia de aprendizaje. Resultados: Los valoresbasales no difirieron significativamente entre los grupos (p > 0,05), excepto para la puntuación cinestésica del MIQ-3 (p = 0,003). El análisis intragrupo reveló una mejora significativa en lapuntuación cinestésica del MIQ-3 del GIM entre la evaluación inicial y la final (p = 0,003), mientrasque los demás parámetros permanecieron sin cambios. Los resultados del cronometraje mentalmostraron una reducción significativa en la duración del desempeño en tiempo real en el GIM (p =0,025). Los hallazgos cualitativos indicaron que la mayoría de los participantes percibieron la IMcomo una estrategia útil y motivadora para mejorar el autoaprendizaje y la retención de lamemoria. Conclusión: La incorporación de la práctica de IM en la enseñanza tradicional mejoró lacapacidad de imaginería cinestésica de los estudiantes y la eficiencia en el aprendizaje del masajepara el cólico del lactante. La IM puede servir como una herramienta pedagógica eficaz, económicay centrada en el estudiante para apoyar la adquisición de habilidades psicomotoras en la educaciónen fisioterapia y rehabilitación.
