- PublicationOpen AccessAnalysing university students’ life satisfaction through their socioemotional factors(Universidad de Murcia. Servicio de Publicaciones, 2023) García Martínez, Inmaculada; Gavín Chocan, Óscar; Molero, David; León, Samuel P.This study attempts to provide evidence of the relationship between emotional intelligence and resilience, with optimism vs. pessimism as mediating variables of life satisfaction. The sample included 403 university students. The average age was 20.86 (SD= 2.56). In relation to gender, 84.61% were female and 15.39% were male participants. Information was collec-ted by means of four tools: Wong Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS-S), Resilience Scale (RS-14), Life Orientation Test Scale Revised (LOT-R) and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). Regarding the association between Emotional Intelligence and Resilience, a statisti-cally significant relationship was observed. Besides, positive relationships were found between optimism and satisfaction with life; while a negative association with pessimism was noted. The results indicate that students with a high level of emotional intelligence and resilience have higher scores in optimism and life satisfaction. Moreover, the structural equation model showed that Emotional Intelligence and resilience are able to predict higher life satisfaction directly (β= .19, and β= .26, respectively), but they may also mediate through optimism. This mediation effect did not appear with the pessimism factor. Finally, the practical implications of this study underline the need to promote emotional intelligence and resilience education programmes to improve personal well-being.
- PublicationOpen AccessLife satisfaction among sports participants: A systematic review(Servicio de Publicaciones. Universidad de Murcia, 2025) Sidi, Adli Bin Mohd; Afriani, Rini; Saputra, Endarman; Hasim, Mustakim; Sepdanius, Endang; Sin departamento asociadoThe aim of this study was to find evidence demonstrating that participating in sports activities has an impact on life satisfaction of individuals involved in these activities. The methodology followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) technique. Databases was searched using indexing services, including Scopus and Web of Science. A total of 13 articles met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that 1) Physical activity with social interaction and self-efficacy is important for improving life satisfaction and physical well-being across various age groups. 2) It is important to manage stress and fatigue that may arise, even though physical activity and good nutrition improve life satisfaction. 3) Body weight status and gender affect physical literacy and life satisfaction in children and adolescents. 4) Life satisfaction derived from physical activity has a significant longterm impact on health and future care needs. 5) Well-structured physical activity, whether in team practice or individual activities, can enhance life satisfaction and mental health. 6) The quality of experience in physical activity is more important than the duration in improving life satisfaction. By understanding the factors that mediate the relationship between physical activity and well-being, this research can help develop a more comprehensive theory of how physical activity affects mental and physical health.
- PublicationOpen AccessRelación entre Actividad Física, Pasión por el Deporte y Satisfacción con la Vida en Adultos Chilenos(Universidad de Murcia: servicio de publicaciones, 2025) Pulido-Iparraguirre, Cristóbal; Marín-Gutiérrez, Mauricio; Villalobos-Manríquez, José; Sin departamento asociadoThe present study investigates the relationship between physical activity, passion for sports, and life satisfaction among Chilean adults who engage in physical activity. A non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational explanatory design was used. A total of 306 adults (62.7% men and 36.9% women) aged between 18 and 66 years (M = 32.5) responded. A demographic questionnaire, the Passion for Sports Scale, and the Life Satisfaction Scale were utilized. A multiple linear regression model was analyzed to explain the variation in life satisfaction (LS) based on age, sex, physical activity (PA), harmonious passion (HP), and obsessive passion (OP). The model achieved an R² of 0.214. The main results indicate that: 1) a high frequency of PA is associated with a decrease in LS; 2) HP positively influences LS and moderates the relationship between PA and LS, acting as a positive effect modifier in this relationship; 3) OP did not significantly predict LS nor moderate the relationship between PA and LS. It is concluded that fostering HP for sports can enhance the positive impact of PA on LS
