    L' expression de l’extrême. Formes et fonctions de l’intensité dans Manon Lescaut.

    : Based on the extraordinary profusion of marks of intensity in L’histoire de Manon Lescaut et du chevalier des Grieux, we will analyse the different communicative functions of intensi!cation in Prévost’s novel based on its inscription in a speci!c discursive context, so as to end the relationship between such linguistic operation and several, more speci!c narrative strategies. Thus, it will be examined the relationship with the register of the pathetic that crosses the XVIII century literary genres, as well as the semantic-pragmatic values of the intensive consecutive construction and the effects of “genericity” noted by Adam (2011) in relation to other discursive genres. To conclude, it will be analysed the intensi!cation strategies in the novel, destined to capture the interest of the reader and to generate humorous situations.

    Me not a good kisser, that’s like Mother Theresa, not a good mother : an analysis of the hyperbolic like comparison construction.

    Abstract: Given the scarcity of research on hyperbole and simile in Cognitive Linguistics, it is important to explore these figures of speech, whose interaction has only been tangentially addressed in this field. Thus, the main aim of the study is to provide a detailed description of hyperbolic like comparison constructions by examining the structural and conceptual diversity of the source and target domains, as well as the characteristics of the third component of hyperbolic similes, namely the elaboration. With this objective in mind, we carried out an analysis of 120 examples of hyperbolic similes retrieved from the comedy sitcom Friends (1994-2004). Our findings show that the source domains of hyperbolic like comparison constructions are both structurally and conceptually more complex than the target domains.

    Textos e intertextos para seducir en El divino Narciso de sor Juana Inés de la Cruz

    En el auto sacramental mitológico El Divino Narciso de Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, resultan de gran relevancia los dos discursos que analizamos. En el primero, Eco, i dentificada con el Demonio, pretende seducir a Narciso, a su vez identificado con Cristo, mostrándole todos sus bienes. Estudiaremos cuáles son estos, y qué características tienen, para poder comprender por qué los ha escogido la autora. Definimos cómo se ha representado el discurso demoníaco, demostrando sus intertextos y referencias. Por otra parte, y contrastando con él, veremos cómo Narciso recuerda sus beneficios a la Naturaleza Humana con un discurso más sencillo. Aunque ambos comparten el objetivo de la seducción, forma y contenido son diferentes, como corresponde a las diferencias entre los personajes que los pronuncian. Podremos así comprobar si estas diferencias contribuyen al fracaso o el éxito del intento de seducción en cada caso. El artículo e xplica los nexos intertextuales con algunos otros textos de diversos ámbitos, pues son tanto míticos (las Metamorfosis de l poeta latino Ovidio , primer narrador del mito de Eco y Narciso ) , como religiosos (bíblicos: Génesis, Cantar de los Cantares, Evangeli os ) y contemporáneos (con Góngora y Calderón) , y se centra en cómo enriquecen el significado de cada pasaje en particular y la obra de Sor Juana en general
