    When did the killing occur?: Donald Davidson on Action Individuation

    According to Donald Davidson’smethod of action individuation, killings occurbefore the death of the victim. In this paper I shallargue against this counter intuitive view but alsoagainst its most popular rival, the view thatkillings do not occur until the time of the victim’sdeath (by which point the killer may be doingsomething else, or even be deceased), as well asRuth Weintrub’s recent suggestion that killingscannot be located temporally at all. Instead, Ishall claim that while we can locate killingsspatiotemporally, we cannot do so with the samedegree of precision that we can locate otherevents (e.g. shootings). In so doing, I shall also bearguing (contra Weintrub) that the causing of anevent may itself be conceived of as an event
