- PublicationRestrictedStephanodictyon borneense (Pottiaceae, Bryophyta): new combination, typification and update of distribution(Taylor and Francis Group, 2018-01-04) Alonso García, Marta; Cano Bernabé, María Jesús; Jiménez Fernández, Juan Antonio; Biología VegetalStephanodictyon borneense was described by Dixon and later combined to Trichostomum by Zander. Until now, it had been considered endemic to Malaysia, known only from the type locality on Lobang, Kinabalu (Sabah state). Here, its taxonomic position is assessed based on morphological data. Our results suggest that the combination into the genus Chionoloma is required. Moreover, typification is performed and its distribution is increased. Stephanodictyon borneense is, therefore, newly reported for South and Central America (Colombia, Costa Rica, Haiti and Venezuela), for some Asiatic countries (India, Japan and Nepal) and for Papua New Guinea. Despite these new reports, S. borneense is a rare species with a highly scattered distribution.
- PublicationOpen AccessTaxonomic identity of Chionoloma bombayense (Pottiaceae, Bryophyta)(Schweizerbart Science Publishers, 2017-08-15) Alonso García, Marta; Cano Bernabé, María Jesús; Jiménez Fernández, Juan Antonio; Biología VegetalChionoloma bombayense (Müll. Hal.) P. Sollman (Pottiaceae) has a long and complex taxonomic history. Recently it was viewed as a species with over 50 synonyms and considered the only species of the genus Pseudosymblepharis Broth., and later as Chionoloma Dixon, in Asia and Africa. Some phylogenetic studies have now suggested that more than one species could be recognized within C. bombayense. Here, in order to complement these molecular data, a morphological analysis is carried out. The concept of the species is significantly reduced, it is considerably more restricted in distribution and several names previously applied to this taxon need to be resurrected. Therefore, we present a complete description of the species, an updated distribution map and illustrations of the diagnostic characters. A lectotype for Trichostomum perannulatum Dixon & P. de la Varde is designated herein.
- PublicationRestrictedTaxonomic revision of Chiololoma (Pottiaceae, Bryophyta)(Missouri Botanical Garden Press, 2019-11-18) Alonso García, Marta; Cano Bernabé, María Jesús; Jiménez Fernández, Juan Antonio; Biología VegetalA worldwide taxonomic revision of the species belonging to the moss genus Chionoloma Dixon (Pottiaceae) is here presented. Our work is based on the morphological analysis of more than 2600 specimens deposited in different herbaria or collected during field trips. A total of 131 names were found and their nomenclatural types were examined, resulting in the lectotypification of 45 names. It is concluded that Chionoloma is composed of 22 species and one variety, seven of them are here newly combined (C. circinatum (Besch.) M. Alonso, M.J. Cano & J.A. Jiménez; C. cylindrotheca (Mitt.) M. Alonso, M.J. Cano & J.A. Jiménez; C. hyalinoblastum (Broth.) M. Alonso, M.J. Cano & J.A. Jiménez; C. melanostomum (Mitt.) M. Alonso, M.J. Cano & J.A. Jiménez; C. orthodontum (Müll. Hal.) M. Alonso, M.J. Cano & J.A. Jiménez; C. sarawakense (Dixon) M. Alonso, M.J. Cano & J.A. Jiménez; and C. stenocarpum (Thér.) M. Alonso, M.J. Cano & J.A. Jiménez). Moreover, 42 names are newly synonymized and a total of 74 new records for various countries are reported. Keys, descriptions, illustrations, photographs, and distribution data of each species are provided.
