    Comparative analysis of the degree of acquisition of skillsin Advanced Life Support and Immediate Life Support

    Cardiac arrest (CA) is a major public health problem in developed countries.According to the Spanish Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Council, in Spain there arearound thirty thousand deaths a year and about twenty thousand resuscitation attempts,and yet until very recently medical students did not receive formal training in AdvancedLife Support (ALS). With the introduction in 2018 of a new subject, we faced the problemthat it was not established what type of Life Support was appropriate for our students. Asa result, the aim of this study is to analyze in a comparative way the degree of acquisitionof competences in ALS and Immediate Life Support (ILS) and their temporal evolution by he students of fifth and sixth year (Medicine Degree) of the University of Granada (UGR).To achieve that aim, we obtained the data in an initial evaluation to the medical studentswho enrolled the optional subject of Advanced Life Support in the Faculty of Medicine(UGR), during the months of October and November (2019). This evaluation was carriedout by external evaluators and was based on the ERC 2015 guidelines. Months later, areassessment that was carried out during the months of February and March 2020 to thesame sample of students gave us the data for the comparison. Data showed that the degreeof acquisition of competencies related to the ILS exceeds the level of acquisition of thecompetences included within the ALS, and that the effect of the Oblivion Curve for thecompetences included in the ILS is lower than those included in the ALS. We couldconclude that the competences that are integrated within the ILS present a higher level ofacquisition and a lesser effect on the forgetting curve, so they should be the ones becomingpart of the curricular content of the UGR Medical Degree.

    The teaching of leadership for healthcare professionals inthe context of cardiorespiratory arrest: integrative review

    Cardiorespiratory arrest has a high prevalence among cardiovascular emergencies andthe care provided by health professionals must be of excellence. Therefore, there is a need toprepare health professionals to deal with such situations with regard not only to the performance oftechnical skills, but also to the performance of non-technical skills, with leadership being exercisedwithin the teams, crucial for a satisfactory outcome. The study aims to identify evidence in theliterature regarding the strategies used in teaching leadership to health professionals in the contextof cardiac arrest. This is an integrative literature review with searches in the CINAHL, MEDLINE,LILACS and WEB OF SCIENCE databases. The final sample included 4 studies, carried out indeveloped countries and with a relatively low level of evidence; among the strategies for teachingleadership, the practice of simulation in association with learning assessment methodspredominated, showing good results in terms of leadership performance and the outcome ofcardiac arrest. It is recommended that other studies evaluate leadership teaching strategies in thecontext of cardiorespiratory arrest in heterogeneous teams and in developing countries.
