- PublicationOpen AccessCritical Insights in European Media Literacy Research and Policy(Sveučilište u Zagrebu, Fakultet političkih znanosti i Hrvatsko komunikacijsko društvo, 2012) Livingstone, Sonia; Papaioannou, Tao; Grandío, María del Mar; Wijnen, Christine; Información y DocumentaciónThis special issue of Media Studies turns to theoretical and empirical research for critical insights regarding future directions, with the emphasis on the European perspective and theoretical origins of the concept as well as making particular reference to European policy. As guest editors of this issue, we begin with some observations about the current state of media literacy research as well as its recurrent challenges. We suggest that, notwithstanding the recent explosion of interest in forms of media and digital or information literacies, building on a longer history of research and practical initiatives in media education, the results are uneven at best.
- PublicationOpen Access"Meet our group!": addressing mulitple audiences on the websites of Spanish research groups.(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2019) Luzón, María JoséWebsites offer research groups a powerful tool for self-promotion and dissemination of their research to a diversified audience. The aim of this study is to explore how research groups affiliated to a research institution in a non-Anglophone country compose their websites to achieve visibility and impact and reach multiple audiences. Content analysis of the websites and semi-structured interviews were used to examine the language(s) in which the websites are written and their content. The study shows that through these websites research groups address simultaneously the international disciplinary community and various local audiences and that these audiences shape the choice of language and content. Findings from this study provide insights into new communication and representation practices engaged in by research groups to meet disciplinary goals, requirements for funding, and society’s demands.
- PublicationOpen AccessEl nuevo teatro en su entorno: Elementos para su contextualización(2015-12-03) Feuillastre, Anne LaureThe 'New Spanish Theatre' is a little-known theatrical movement. It appeared at the end of the 60's, under Franco's dictatorial government, and marked a break from the previous generation called 'Realists'. It comprises different pieces of work by engaged authors excluded from the public stage due to various political and economic reasons. These were characterized by an avant-garde esthetics, close to absurd and symbolism theatre. Because they were usually neither played nor published, they often did not reach the public. Still, the youngest writers of the 'New Theatre' try to expand their movement through independent groups, alternative circuits or festivals. The audience attending the few shows was very different from those usually going to national and commercial theatre; they were searching for an alternative theatre, esthetically new and politically engaged. By these means, the 'New Spanish Theatre' hoped not to remain in the absurd state of "text theatre".
