- PublicationOpen AccessLa relación entrenador-atleta-padre :adaptación y validación de la versión árabe del cuestionario PNPCAP(Universidad de Murcia: servicio de publicaciones, 2025) Kenioua, Mouloud; Bekai, Ismail; Krine, Nawa; Sin departamento asociadoThe 11-item Positive and Negative Processes in the Coach-Athlete-Parent Questionnaire (PNPCAP) is a new questionnaire that measures the dynamics of interactions between coaches, athletes, and parents, as well as its psychometric properties. However, we found that no Arabic version was used to examine the Arabic population. Cita: Kenioua, M.,Bekai, I. & Krine, N.(2025).The Coach-Athlete–Parent Relationship: Adaptationand Validation of theArabic version of the PNPCAP Questionnaire.Cuadernos de Psicología del Deporte,25(2), 134-150 Thus, the study aimed to translate and validate the PNPCAP into the Arabic version using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. We asked a total of 439 athletes (15.51 ±1.77) to complete the PNPCAP Arabic version using the forward-backward translation method. The results of the exploratory factor analysis indicated that the quantity of components was appropriate for the field investigation, leading to the elimination of three items with a value less than 0.40. The confirmatory factor analysis showed a good fit with the data (CFI = 0.970, SRMR = 0.065, RMSEA = 0.044). Internal consistency, with Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega values for the overall questionnaire, were both higher than 0.70. This meant that it could be used to evaluate the relationship between the coach, athlete, and parent among Arabic youth athletes. The final Arabic PNPCAP questionnaire has two dimensions: positive and negative processes. Each dimension has four items. Other Arabic-speaking nations may have different family and sporting customs, rendering the cultural context of the study irrelevant
- PublicationRestrictedLinks between sports injuries and mental health in elite athletes: the current state of affairs(2024-02-21) Gil Caselles, Laura; Olmedilla Zafra, Aurelio; Personalidad, Evaluación y Tratamiento PsicológicosCurrently, the studies that have been carried out on sports injuries are mostly focused on physical factors as the main cause; however, empirical evidence shows the importance of psychological factors. Therefore, we must focus on identifying the most relevant variables surrounding sports injuries, that is, those that can influence their appearance and/or rehabilitation. Mental health disorders have become one of the most relevant problems today, and with it, the risk of suffering an injury is increasing. The objective of the present study is to carry out a systematic review of the scientific literature to know which mental health indicators are the most common in relation to sports injuries in elite athletes. A systematic review of the scientific literature will be carried out in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. For this purpose, various databases have been used, such as: Scopus, Scielo, ResearchGate, MedlinePlus, Dialnet and Google Scholar. The selected documents were 6, all of them review articles published between 2016 and 2022. The results indicate that: there is a relationship between mental health and sports injuries; the prevalence of mental health symptoms in sport increases the risk of injury and delays rehabilitation; the number of injuries negatively affects the athlete’s mental health; Injuries can increase the risk of mental health problems and adverse behaviors. In conclusion, this review shows how mental health indicators are significantly related to sports injuries, and how their relationship can lead to incorrect recovery for the athlete and/or being more exposed to suffering from it. -------------------
- ItemOpen AccessMental strategies and well-being: the dynamics of superstition and obsessive thoughts in team and individual athletes(Universidad de Murcia: Servicio de Publicaciones, 2026) Agrali Ermis, Sermin; Yıldız Ozturk, Rabia; Toros, Turhan; Serin, Emre; Uzun, Meliha; Canikli Temel, Nisanur; Sin departamento asociadoThis study aimedto examine the effects of psychological dynamics, particularly superstitions (repetitive thoughts or behaviors)and obsessions(lucky symbols, rituals),on the subjective well-being (mental health and overall satisfaction) of individuals engaged in team and individual sports. The research useda cross-sectional design. A total of 373 athletes (177 females, 196 males) participated in the study. The participants' ages ranged from 18 to 35, with a mean age of 23.7 years. The average sports experience was 7.4 years. Data collection tools included the Obsessive Beliefs Questionnaire, the Attitudes Towards Superstitious Behavior in Sports Scale, and the Subjective Well-Being Scale. The results revealed statistically significant differences in superstition levels, obsessive beliefs, and subjective well-being between team and individual athletes(p<0.05). The effects of superstition and obsession levels on subjective well-being were also identified. These findings suggest that athletes' mental dynamics may differ depending on the type of sport, and these dynamics can have significant impacts on their subjective well-being

- PublicationOpen AccessThe effect of cupping therapy combined with high-intensity interval exercise on selected blood parameters of football player(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2023) Mannaa, Ahmed Adel; Sayed, Akram Abd Alaziz; Yehia, Amr Moustafa; Elghaffar, Heba Ali AbedCupping therapy is a centuries-old and worldwide method that may be found in both the East and the West. The aim of this study was to find out how wet cupping therapy combined with high-intensity interval training affects blood markers and athletic performance in football players. A two-arms, pre- and post-test, parallel randomized controlled trial was carried out. Forty male football players were chosen from Wadi Degla Football Club and were divided into two equal groups (group A and group B) using computerized randomization. Twenty players were assigned to Group A (wet cupping group), which received cupping therapy once a month for three months and high-intensity interval training, including Fifa 11+ protocol six days a week for three months, while twenty other players were assigned to Group B (control group), which received only high-intensity interval training, including Fifa 11+ protocol six days a week for three months. At baseline and after the training program, hematological analysis, blood lactate, and the Yo-Yo level 2 test were performed. Compared with the MCHC (mean corpuscular hemoglobin), PLt (platelet count), and total distance values of the control group after treatment, the wet cupping therapy group showed statistically significant improvement in lactic acid (p = 0.005), MCHC (p = 0.026), PLt (p = 0.014), lymphocytes (p = 0.047), and distance (meter) (p = 0.007). In football players, the mixed technique of using wet cupping with high-intensity interval training has resulted in clinically crystal-clear improvements in lactic acid, MCHC, PLt, and total distance covered.
- ItemOpen AccessThe effect of sport massage therapy using virgin coconut oil on the physical fitness of athletes in Bali Province(Servicio de Publicaciones. Universidad dde Murcia, 2026) Sinaga, Fajar Apollo; Muliarta, I Wayan; Dartini, Ni Putu Dwi Sucita; Ariani, Luh Putu Tuti; Dharmadi, Made Agus; Sin departamento asociadoThe aim of this study was to determine the effect of massage therapy using Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) on improving the fitness of Bali athletes. The research method employed was a quasi experiment involving a sample of 32 male Bali athletes (aged between 16 and 18 years), divided into 16 participants in the experimental group and 16 participants in the control group. The experimental group received massage therapy using VCO, while the control group used body lotion for massage. Data were collected through fitness tests using the Multi-Stage Fitness Test (MFT) and involved pre test and post-test measurements. Based on the results of the study, the massage therapy using VCO had a statistically significant effect on the physical fitness of Bali athletes (p=0.001). In contrast, massage therapy using body lotion did not show a statistically significant effect on physical fitness (p=0.064). Furthermore, a significant difference was found between the two treatments (p=0.036), indicating that VCO was more effective than body lotion in improving athletes’ physical fitness. The results of this research are expected to contribute to improving athlete performance through massage interventions using VCO and to provide a broader understanding for coaches in enhancing athlete performance based on the principles of training and recovery.
- PublicationRestrictedVelocity-based method in free-weight and machine-based training modalities: the degree of freedom matters(Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, 2023-09) Hernández Belmonte, Alejandro; Buendía Romero, Ángel; García Pallarés, Jesús; Martínez Cava, Alejandro; Actividad Física y DeporteThis study aimed to analyze and compare the load-velocity relationships of free-weight and machine-based modalities of 4 resistance exercises. Moreover, we examined the influence of the subject's strength level on these load-velocity relationships. Fifty men completed a loading test in the free-weight and machine-based modalities of the bench press, full squat, shoulder press, and prone bench pull exercises. General and individual relationships between relative intensity (%1RM) and velocity variables were studied through the coefficient of determination (R2) and standard error of the estimate (SEE). Moreover, the velocity attained to each %1RM was compared between both modalities. Subjects were divided into stronger and weaker to study whether the subject's strength level influences the mean test (mean propulsive velocity [MPVTest]) and 1RM (MPV1RM) velocities. For both modalities, very close relationships (R2 ≥ 0.95) and reduced estimation errors were found when velocity was analyzed as a dependent (SEE ≤ 0.086 m·s−1) and independent (SEE ≤ 5.7% 1RM) variable concerning the %1RM. Fits were found to be higher (R2 ≥ 0.995) for individual load-velocity relationships. Concerning the between-modality comparison, the velocity attained at each intensity (from 30 to 100% 1RM) was significantly faster for the free-weight variant. Finally, nonsignificant differences were found when comparing MPVTest (differences ≤ 0.02 m·s−1) and MPV1RM (differences ≤ 0.01 m·s−1) between stronger and weaker subjects. These findings prove the accuracy and stability of the velocity-based method in the free-weight and machine-based variants but highlight the need to use the load-velocity relationship (preferably the individual one) specific to each training modality.
