Materials and Methods: This was a scoping review following the Joanna Briggs Institute and PRISMA-ScR guidelines, with studies published up to February 2025 in the sources of information CINAHL, EMBASE, Lilacs, PubMed/Medline, SciELO, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Web of Science, Wiley, the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, and Google Scholar. Content description was performed via the PAGER method. Results: Twenty-eight studies were included, with 50.0% of the publications concentrated in primary health care and 82.1% published after 2020. The following patterns were identified: foundations for advanced practices; advances: discussions guided by the Pan American Health Organization, the Brazilian Nursing Association, and the Federal Nursing Council; gaps: absence of regulation, weaknesses in training, difficulty in understanding, and cultural barriers; evidence for practice: positive care and care management outcomes; and recommendations: need for specific regulation and training at the professional master's and doctoral levels. Conclusions: in its initial implementation phase in Brazil, APN faces significant challenges such as regulatory urgencies and a lack of specialized training. The main recommendations for policy development and professional training are based, firstly, on legal consolidation, as well as on the creation of stricto sensu postgraduate programs with a pedagogical structure geared towards developing competencies and skills compatible with advanced practices in various care settings
